Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL)
Though a voluntary certification in the US, OSHA Safety Standards require that any product used in the workplace must be approved by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). NRTL certification is effectively mandatory for products sold into commercial and industrial markets in the United States.
What is an NRTL
A Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory is an organization that OSHA has recognized to test products to the specifications of applicable product safety standards. NRTLs test and certify products to US and Canadian safety standards. Well-known NRTLs include UL, CSA, Intertek, and TÜV.
When NRTL Certification is Required
NRTL certification is required for products intended for use in the workplace under OSHA jurisdiction. This includes IT equipment, test and measurement equipment, industrial controls, and other products used in commercial and industrial environments. Many retail and commercial buyers also require NRTL certification as a condition of purchase.
CTS and NRTL
CTS works with recognized NRTLs to provide combined EMC and safety testing services. We coordinate with our NRTL partners to manage the complete certification process, reducing the burden on manufacturers who need both EMC and safety certifications.
